What with running the auto companies, banks, and the Iranian election folks at the café are wondering whether Obama will capture Osama bin Laden real quick like he said he would back before the election. Hubbard folks have long memories and don’t like Osama at all (that’s with an S). Candidate Obama's pledge to hunt him down was music to their ears and probably got him 20-30 votes in Hubbard last November.
Now with all the talk about health care being a "ticking time bomb", it is just hard not to get confused. When it comes to health care there is one group in town represented by Morris Lee DuBerry whose slant is a little different, “Life should NOT be a trip to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a pretty body, but rather to skid in sideways – a cool one in one hand – a smoke in the other - body pretty much used up, worn out and yelling 'YAA HOO, What a Ride'’.
Looks like Morris Lee might get sideways with President Obama on any kind of mandatory preventive health plan.
Back to Osama, most of the folks would like to see Obama spend a little more time on national defense things. Hubbard folks believe in making your fences horse-high, pig-tight, and bull-strong. They sure don’t believe in vacationing the Gitmo guys in Bermuda nor spending over $10 million per head to send them to some darn Pacific Island called Palau. On top of that you have our friends down south floating those funny cigarettes across the Rio Grande (actually the folks are about 50% mixed on this one between Willie's followers and George Strait's fans).
Heck, the Hubbard folks are so negative about Obama’s search for Osama that the local barber and bookie, Spooks Bounds, is giving 3 to 1 odds that O. J. finds Nicole’s killer before Obama lives up to his campaign promise to nab bin Laden.

Raising More Than Hay in Hubbard
Scottie Andersen told me this weekend that "he was a lucky man". "He spent $60 per bale to grow his hay and sold it for $35 a bale." When I asked him why that was lucky? He said "because I didn't have many bales!"
This brought a comment from Billy Roy Meechum that maybe Scottie needed a government "bale out". Not only did the group not appreciate BR's humor, this launched them into an assessment of the recent assistance provided the locals seeking stimulation.
While every bank in Central Texas refused TARP money, the only help they have received in the auto industry appears to be the unfair, and probably unlawful, closing of local GM and Chrysler dealerships costing jobs in the surrounding area.
Aunt Martha suggested that the Cafe folks were being too critical and maybe they should give "hope and change a chance". She thinks maybe the Cap and Trade (Waxman-Markey bill) will stop Scott Riddle, local cattle barron, from globally warming downtown Hubbard.
This comment caused Butch Jackson, local fact finder, to quote the Heritage Foundation Economic report on Cap and Trades impact on farming: "Worst of all is what happens to farmers’ net income. Waxman-Markey significantly shrinks farmers’ net income. Farm income is expected to drop $8 billion in 2012, $25 billion in 2024, and over $50 billion in 2035. These are decreases of 28%, 60% and 94% from the baseline, respectively."
Of course, this caused Billy Roy Meechum to repeat his earlier comments that Congress needs to Cap their mouths and Trade their offices for real jobs back home.
This pretty much ended all the advice that Scottie got on his hay problem. Looks like he really is lucky compared to the prospects of future farmers of America.

To the Boys of Summer
To the Editor:
Thanks to Corsicana Youth Baseball. I am a 93-year-old lady from Hubbard now a resident of Heritage Oaks Retirement Village. I would like to say “thank you” to a dedicated group of men and women who take time from their busy schedules to coach the Little League teams. I had the pleasure of seeing my great-great-grandson, Blane, a member of the Astros T-Ball team play. I was impressed with the coaches. They seemed very knowledgeable on the basics of the game and they handled the boys in a way that made you know they cared.
I feel qualified to speak on this as my husband (now deceased) was in Minor League Baseball as a player and then manager for over 25 years. Parents please take the time to thank the coaches and all who participate in the program. The boys learn much more than baseball on the playing field.
Thank you coaches. May God bless you for all that you do to help our youth — they are the future.

Prepping for Comments on Obama's Speech in Cairo
I am going to Hubbard this weekend, and they will certainly ask me what I think about Obama's latest speech in Egypt. Here are some thoughts. Please comment on this posting by giving me your insights as well.
I believe Obama thinks that he has won the American election and is now campaigning for the President of the World. If there was such an election he probably would win…….but there isn’t.
Remember David Axelrod, who is his handler, specializes in winning Urban Mayor elections with Black Candidates. That is how Obama won the Presidency. Look at the electoral map of Blue States. Our country is divided politically between Urban and Non-urban areas.
What Obama will discover is there is no such office as President of the World. In fact most of the countries that are important to our foreign affairs don’t even have real elections, e.g. Russia, Saudi Arabia, Iran, Egypt, China, N. Korea, etc. In the countries that have real elections, Obama will not be able to get on the ballot.
So his hope is to influence the World through a constant Public Relations campaign in which he straddles every world issue gaining popularity as he goes. He learned this at the Harvard Law School.
Meanwhile he will try to use his popularity to create a World Bank and a Global Warming initiative using the UN and other World organizations. Any degree of success here will make his backers jillions of $$$$.
His popularity in the US is high while the popularity of his issues is "not so good" (abortion, Gitmo, deficit spending, bailouts, socialism). Since most world leaders will see Obama as a threat because of his straddles (playing to both sides), his influence will be minimized to really sway the opinion and action of these world leaders.
In my opinion the bottom line is that the U. S. will have less influence in the world because world leaders respond to power and threats not straddles and persuasion. They act in their own self interest. Also, they will see Obama’s policies failing in the US. The end result will be an articulate Jimmy Carter leaving us another huge hole that we must dig out of.....again. To make matters much worse this time, we will have a huge increase in nuclear threats from bad guys throughout the world (Iran, N. Korea, terroists).
Interesting, that Obama has straddled everyone in the world with the exception of Al Qaeda, Bush, Limbaugh, and Cheney. He will always demonize all opposition.

Warning: Bad News from London Coming to the Cafe
Hungry travelers may want to steer clear of the Café this week when the news arrives from London.
A friend of mine who lives there sent me a note answering a simple question. I plan to share the answer with the folks at the Café this week. Their response ain’t gonna be pretty.
My question: Is the Muslim/Multiculturalism influence affecting the UK as badly as I hear?
My friend's answer: “It is probably worse than you hear. I live with it and see it every day. I do not understand this society that the Labor Party is trying to impose on us here. Multiculturalism is a poison, but since Tony Blair's wife is a lawyer, and specializes in human rights, he signed the European Convention of Human Rights. It is just killing liberty in the UK."
"Can you imagine a murderer with a life sentence suing the government under human rights, and getting the right to see online pornography in his prison cell?"
"Can you imagine under this dammed European law the parents of a soldier killed in Iraq can sue the government for violating his human rights by sending him into battle?"
"Enough said. You get the point. The beginning of the end for the US is when every other way of life is encouraged and given rights equal to the American way. You are somewhat lucky that the hordes from the South that are clamoring to get in to the U.S. are Christian Hispanics and not the hordes of North African and Middle Eastern Moslems."
J. P. Dawson, our Hubbard reared/Waco practicing attorney, says all Americans should be on the look out for our new leader signing U.N. and International Treaties committing us to multicultural policies that the U.S. people and Congress would never pass. International treaties override State laws.
What a slick way to circumvent each State’s rights, huh? Of course our President would not want to do this just like he doesn’t want to run General Motors nor raise taxes on the middle class nor Socialize health care.
Listening to Obama reminds me of Will Rogers sage advice: "Always drink upstream from the herd."

The average cost of rehabilitating a seal after the Exxon Valdez Oil spill in Alaska was $80,000.00. At a special ceremony, two of the most expensively saved animals were being released back into the wild amid cheers and applause from onlookers. A minute later, in full view, a killer whale ate them both.
It just don't seem right!
