A Couple of This Writer's Favorite People

Several followers have questioned whether the folks at the Cafe really exist. This picture of Billy Roy and Mom was taken last weekend at the old historic high school building in Hubbard. Billy Roy was performing at a Christmas Dinner. Mom and Billy Roy are the "best buds".  I might add that BM was in great voice for the occasion as he performed with a local group called Glory Bound.

Mom was celebrating her 89th birthday.

Times are good in Hubbard City.

Who Still Wants to Stand and Fight?

One of the really good things about this Obama guy is that he has really made the Cafe folks study up on their history as evidenced by Billy Roy's latest observation, "I feel like the Constitution is old Fort Henry and the Communists are out in the harbor like those British ships. The incoming ' rockets and bombs' are in the form of the government passing illegal laws such as  Obamacare, violating bankruptcy laws like the GM/Chrysler bailouts, and not enforcing immigration laws to add socialist voters to name just a few. All their guns are aimed at taking down the American way of life.  Our very liberty (freedom but with responsibility) is at risk."

"Just saw a great video about Francis Scott Key and the Star Spangled Banner. Takes a little while to get through it but never have Americans needed to bone up more on their history more than we do as we stave off this attack from the O-bam throwers."

The narrator of this video quotes George Washington, "American Christians would rather die standing  and fighting than to get on their knees."   Our challenge in the US is to keep American Christians in the majority.

Thanking Dandy Don for the Good Times

This writer heard this morning of the death of Don Meredith, former Quarterback at Mt. Vernon High School, Southern Methodist University, and the Dallas Cowboys. Don Meredith was 72 years old at the time of his death in Santa Fe, New Mexico. I started following Meredith when he played at SMU. He, and the talented cast that surrounded him, (including a very good running back/receiver named Frank Jackson, who I think was from Paris, Texas) were not only a good football team but were also incredibly exciting to watch.

Don Meredith was an extremely gifted athlete. Those who only saw him with the Cowboys might not think so. After a few years in the early days of pro football Don's knees were so crippled he could barely run. At SMU Don was the tailback in a "spread" formation. On most plays he either threw or RAN the football. This was not all that different than the offensive schemes of the super quarterbacks in college football today, Cam Newton being the best. Recent players like Colt McCoy, Tim Tebow, and Vince Young fit in the mold as well.  Don showed them the way as he spread the defensive, forced them to defend the pass, and then ran the ball to pick up critical first downs.

Meredith's basketball skills were almost as good. When I attended East Texas State, now Texas A&M at Commerce, Don held the high school tournament scoring record. Observers told me Meredith would bring it across the half court line, and then "jack it" the first time he got a chance.

Don Meredith lived a good life in Dallas as THE QUARTERBACK of AMERICA'S TEAM. The men liked his humor and athletic ability, and the women thought he was more than a little bit cute. The famed Texas football, baseball, and party star, Bobby Layne, would have been proud of the way Don extended his legacy.  Peter Gent, a former Dallas wide receiver, wrote a book followed by a movie called, "North Dallas Forty" based on the Cowboys.  Meredith's character was named Seth Maxwell.  After reading the book Meredith said, "If I'd known Gent was as good as he says he was, I would have thrown to him more."

Most people will remember Don's exploits on Monday Night Football anchoring with his buddies, Frank Gifford, and of course, Howard Cosell. When the games were over, whether the clock had run down or not, Don would break into song, "Turn out the lights, the party's over."

He also had the following quips along with many, many more:

"If 'ifs' and 'buts' were candy and nuts, wouldn't it be a merry Christmas?"

On teammate Walt Garrison: "If you needed four yards, you'd give the ball to Garrison and he'd get you four yards. If you needed 20 yards, you'd give the ball to Garrison, and he'd get you four yards."

His comment when Vice President Spiro Agnew visited the Monday Night booth: "I didn't vote for you, but you do have a nice suit on."

On playing for Tom Landry: "He's such a perfectionist that if he were married to Dolly Parton he'd expect her to cook."

Thank you, Don, you brought entertainment and joy to our lives. Thanks for playing a larger than life role back during the good times.

Don't Mess With BM's Pick Up Truck and More

Billy Roy doesn't like people messing with his way of life, his State of Texas, his friends, or his pick up truck.  Ken Salazar, Obama's Secretary of the Interior, violated all of those this week, "You know meanness don't just happen overnight, and theses Obama guys, like all communists, are really mean.  The Obama administration reversed itself this week by expanding the ban on offshore oil exploration in the Gulf of Mexico and along the Atlantic Coast (note all are mostly Red States). They say the BP oil spill revealed weaknesses in ‘federal regulation’. This, plus the Debt Commission that recommends raising taxes of 15 cents on every gallon of gasoline tightens the ‘Obama noose’ on the oil industry. So in typical socialist fashion, what they can’t get by passing Cap and Trade legislation, they will attempt to get through bureaucratic regulation. Additionally, Obama created two new government agencies to generate more regulations on the oil industry. The bottom line is this action will raise prices of petroleum products for all Americans, reduce tax collections for the US increasing our deficit, eliminates thousands of high paying jobs with unemployment at 10%, and increases our country’s dependence on Arab oil. Bin Laden with the help of George Soros couldn’t have come up with a more damaging terrorist scheme than what Obama and his idiot henchman Ken Salazar, Secretary of the Interior, have done."

Butch picked up on Scott Riddle's formula for communist takeovers and jumped in with both feet, "See the formula at work: First, demonize BP and big oil companies. Second, regulate, regulate, regulate as they tighten the noose. Third, take control and redistribute income."

"In the same week, Obama applauds the Obama-Motors introduction of the Chevy Volt. It sells for $41,000 and costs $40,000 to build which is $10,000 more than it’s competitors which are 3 times more fuel efficient than the Volt. So Obama offsets these pesky little problems by giving any one dumb enough to buy one of these silly little cars $15,000 of tax payer money."

Mom broke several weeks of silence with an infusion of  relevant statistics, "Speaking of tax payers the latest income statistics show the top 1% of tax payers is paying 40% of all income taxes, the top 2% pay 50%, and the top 10% pay 70%. Can you believe the Democrats are trying to use the Bush tax cut extension debates to show how unfair the system is with the rich not paying their fair share. Obviously the socialist want to get over 50% of the voters paying no taxes to attempt to buy enough votes to insure a majority."

BM closed, as usual, with comments on the big picture, "Obama wants to pour fuel on any debate that he can use to position the 'haves' (working people with incomes and companies) and the 'have nots' (everyone else plus those people who represent the 'have nots' including lawyers, the guilt ridden super rich elite, politicians, government employees, and union officials). This is right out of the old communist playbook."

Think about the many ways this same scenario is playing out (energy, autos, health care, education, etc.).

If Obama Could Fool Swing Voters, Then Anybody Can!!!

Scott Riddle made a rare visit to the Cafe with a message way beyond the normal doom and gloom coming off a Thanksgiving Holiday, "The South Koreans are lucky.  They know who is trying to take over their country.  All they have to do is follow the artillery shells.  Our enemies are more dangerous and really scary.  Last week, just as Pelosi told us would happen, we began to find out more that was in Obamacare. Little things like Kathleen Sebelius, Secretary of Health and Human Services, just told the health insurance companies that they must pay 85% of their revenues for claims leaving 15% for costs and profits. Obviously this is how Obama and his commie pals plan to drive the insurance companies out of business in order for the government to takeover. They call it moving to a 'single payer system'. Everything they do in Obamacare drives costs up and service down. It is clearly structured to make consumers unhappy with the evil insurance companies so the government can come to the rescue."

"That wasn't the only shot fired," joined in Butch Jackson, who is known for coming prepared with several sets of data so that he can respond to most any topic.  "This came the same week that Obama motors went public followed by a huge celebration by the savior of the American Auto Industry. This same government saved Goldman Sachs, former home of the then current Secretary of the Treasurer, while letting one of their primary competitors, Lehman Brothers, go out of business. The same government that by-passes a neutered Congress by creating Czars with huge over paid staffs to write regulations to cripple American businesses forcing them to crawl to the government for bailouts."

Scott is a well known Texas Hold'em player of some renown and is not without some knowledge of strategy,"The formula is clear.  First, demonize companies, whole industries, and capitalism itself.  Second, regulate, regulate, and regulate to protect the public and to weaken and intimidate these evil companies (emissions for autos, forcing bad housing loans on banks in the name of social justice, excessively regulating pharmaceutical companies in the introduction of new drugs, phony global warming schemes to control energy futures, forcing greater services on insurance companies while controlling their pricing, etc.)  Third, control business either through crony capitalism, social democracy (state capitalism), or direct communist control."

Butch gets really pumped when he hears about formulas and stuff and is not beyond excessive name dropping,  "Nothing new here.  Nothing that Hitler, Lenin, Castro, Mao, California, and others haven't done before.  All they do is change the names of their techniques.  The Chinese are now calling themselves 'State Capitalist' which means the State controls the companies no different than the Communists did before.  They are just trying to deceive the world since they are expanding their markets dramatically.  Meanwhile the State controls everything including their currency to gain advantages in free markets.  Hitler called his government 'Social Democrats'."

Billy Roy Mitchum brought some hope but a lot of scary stuff as well, "Thank goodness there is push back from folks like the Tea Party.  You would think that business leaders would be the first to defend the Constitution against these new corporate raiders but it appears they have all become a bunch of deflowered steers.  They spend millions to send their lobbyists to Washington in hopes of getting a favored position with these commies.  Take GE, they once were led by a true patriot named Jack Welch, and now they are the worst Obama boot lickers in DC.  They just don't seem to make em anymore like the old Ford guy, Lee Iacocca.  The Chrysler and GM leaders just took their separation pay and gave the company to the unions and government without even a whimper.   Screwed the shareholders to high heaven.  As far as I am concerned we just have one car company left, Ford.  I trust Toyota more than the other two."

"Meanwhile, Obama’s freeze on federal employee payrolls announced last week is really just a partial freeze that applies only to 2011 and 2012 cost of living increases. Most federal employees will still receive seniority-based pay increases over the next two years, and no one’s federal benefits will be affected.   Retirement age for federal employees is 56 which is ridiculous.  Current federal pay plans give the average federal employee 30–40 percent greater total compensation (wages and benefits) than a comparable private sector worker.  And Obama is acting like he has really stepped up to the plate.  As is always the case with Obama, it is just a bunch of BS."

"These next three years are pivotal.  The formula is clear and the foundation is laid for a Communist takeover.  We are balancing between state control and freedom.  Right now I think the odds are 40/20/40 that we could go either way.  The 20 represent thoughtless swing voters.  If Obama can fool them, just about anybody can.  Or hell, he might even do it a second time.  Last week I ask one of the Drug Store Libs why he voted for Obama.  I said was it ignorance or apathy that made you do it?  His answer,' I don't know, and I don't care'."

In With the Military and CIA and Out With the Politically Correct Lawyers

"The American people have handed over our country to lawyers whether they are politicians, judges, ACLU pukes, practicing attorneys, political suck up military leaders, or practitioners of political correctness. Most of them are all power and money hungry sleazy lawyers. Take what just happened in California. Albert Brown raped a 14 yr old girl, got paroled, and then raped and strangled a 15 year old with her own shoe laces. He didn't stop there as he called the little girl's parents and verbally tortured them with vivid descriptions of her murder. The California system of justice, run by lawyers, sentenced old Albert to the death penalty. That was 30 years ago. His execution was stayed a couple of weeks ago until 2011 because they were not sure his execution would be painless because they didn't have the necessary medications available at the time of his execution. Hell, I would've jerked a rope around Old Albert's neck within 15 minutes of his sentencing some 30 years ago and saved the tax payers millions while sending a message to rapists and murderers that God fearing, law abiding people frown on that stuff." Seems Billy Roy is somewhat ornery coming off his back surgery.

The room somewhat erupted in response with Butch's voice winning out as is the usual custom, "This lawyering political correctness crap is OK as long as it is harmless, but most of the time these days it's not even semi-harmless. They have us distracted about getting patted down and pictured nude at airports, meanwhile Obama and our Attorney General Eric Holder are putting the whole world at risk due to their incompetence in governing in a time of war against terrorists. Since these two lawyers hate the military and intelligence agencies they both guaranteed convictions if we try the terrorists in civilian courts. Obama said one year ago, 'I have complete confidence in the American people and our legal traditions and...the tough prosecutors from New York who specialize in terrorism and have brought multiple convictions before are telling us that they will convict this person with the evidence they've got going through our system.' Just like he guaranteed no one would lose their insurance coverage or pay higher taxes. And what happened last week? A New York federal jury acquitted alleged Al Qaeda accomplice Ahmed Khalfan Ghailani on Wednesday of all major terrorism charges in the 1998 suicide bombings of two U.S. embassies in Kenya (home of Obama's father) that killed 224 people, including 12 Americans. They found him guilty of one charge, conspiracy."

Even the world's greatest waitress, Linda Hoerton, got into this one, "I hear they threw out evidence that this Ahmed guy had bought the explosives to make the bombs. Just because this captured military combatant terrorist slime bag informer had a little water poured down his snout. Whose side are these lawyers on anyway?"

BM came back in like a hawk on a field mouse, "Can't you just hear an Al Qaeda recruiter talking to some frustrated Muslim teenager at this very moment. 'Look what happened in the New York court. Even the infidels know our cause is right. They found brother Ghailani not guilty on 224 false charges. When you serve Allah, he will serve you.' These guys know better than anyone what a joke the American defense and security systems have become under the governance of Obama and his liberal lawyers."

"So what's next for our great protector, Obama? He wants our Congress to drop everything and approve his START Treaty with the Russians. What nation in its right mind would let Obama and his intellectuals negotiate a nuclear treaty when the major debate around the world is whether Obama is a Communist enemy of the State or just a totally misguided incompetent narcissist who watches ESPN all day?"

"Meanwhile in the real world at 2:43 PM local time yesterday, North Korea fired artillery rockets at the South Korean island of Yeonpyeong setting dozens of residential homes ablaze, wounding three civilians and fifteen soldiers, and killing two South Korean Marines. In August, the North fired 110 artillery shells near Yeonpyeong and another island. And in March, 46 sailors were killed when a North Korean torpedo sunk the Cheonan. Clearly Hillary and Obama's strategy of using sanctions against N. Korea and Iran while hoping China and Russia will bring sanity to these goofballs is a disaster and is putting the free world at risk. Maybe Obama thinks putting gays in the military will scare off the bad guys."

"Seems like we should keep a guy like Obama focused on little things like health care, saving the world from global warming, putting salad bars in grade schools, and determining whether the Auburn quarterback should be eligible for post season play."

"You are putting some heavy thought on us today, BM. I don't know the answer, but I do know if things keep on, then we aren't going to have a choice. Hubbard City is going to have to get our own lawyer," whimpered Butch in his saddest voice since he was last asked by a transient person about Hubbard's football record of 0-10 this year. Seems Butch's senior year they were 1-9, and Butch don't like finishing second to nobody.

On second thought, maybe we shouldn't think about all this for a while. Let's just give thanks for the elections this month.

Getting Even More Curious About The Character of Public Men

This writer had lunch at Billy Mack Waller's Country Kitchen which is right across the street from the Hubbard City Cafe.  My only reason for being there is Billy Mack cooks the best cheese burger in these United States of America. Also, Bill has some pretty good signs on the wall like, "I've got what it takes: But nobody seems to want it".  While there, Billy told me, "Nancy Pelosi is so mean she would vote her own county to go dry and then move to another county.  And that ain't right!"

Billy's quotes remind me of Samuel Adams who said, "The public can not get too curious concerning the character of public men."  I am curious these days about all of these scanners in airports that are looking right through people's clothes no matter whether the people are 13 years old or 80.  No matter whether they are Catholic Nuns or West Texas Cowboys.  Being politically correct, Secretary Janet Napolitano, who runs Homeland Security, treats everyone the same as she looks for explosive lotions and powders.  Meanwhile, as my hero, Charles Krauthammer says, "The Israelis are the experts.  They look for terrorists, not lotions.  They profile like any sane organization would.  Profiling is not only the most effective approach, but the most efficient."

My curiosity really peaked reading the following news about one of the scanner providers:

OSI Systems Chief Executive Officer Joins US Presidential Visit to India

HAWTHORNE, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- OSI Systems, Inc. (NASDAQ: OSIS), a vertically-integrated provider of specialized electronic products for critical applications in the Security and Healthcare industries, today announced that Deepak Chopra, Chairman and CEO, was selected to accompany US President, Barack Obama, to Mumbai and attended the US India Business Entrepreneurship meeting, which was held by the US India Business Council (US IBC). The goal of the meeting was to promote further trade between US and India.

Then the news that our old friend George Soros dumps his half million dollar investment in OSI just two days ago adds more stink to Obama, Napolitano, Soros, and friends.  Old Samuel Adams was ahead of his time.  This writer predicts that the new Republican House will investigate and find Obama corruption that will make Nixon, Clinton, etc. look like choir boys.  It will probably start with those thugs in the Justice Department and reach out to Chicago of course.

Across the street Scott Riddle held court at the Hubbard City Cafe. Scott likes to serf the net looking at sites like the Communist Party USA to scout what he calls, "Obama and our competition". Scott was pretty wound up in delivering his latest report, "The Commies are really going crazy about the recent elections. They said Republicans won with big lies, hatred, fear mongering, and racism. They fed the following list to their faithful:

1. A lie that  Obamacare would establish 'death panels' to determine standards of care
2. A lie that Obama's stimulus bailed out Wall Street
3. A Lie that Obama's spending created the deficit (just because it went from $400B to $1T)
4. Republicans generated hatred for our Black President
5. Republicans suppressed the voting of Hispanics
6. The Democrats didn't have a good narrative to explain the deficit.  The commies fear this could result in a movement to reduce the size of government.

The Communist Party's website define themselves as the 'Peoples Movement' made up of progressives and Labor Unions. Their greatest fear is 'this notion' pushed by Republicans that the country needs a smaller federal government. The Communist argue that health care, housing, and nutrition can only be solved by a large and strong federal government. They urge their followers to fight for the following major programs at this time:

1. Dramatically cut military spending (this is naturally the only cut they want to make)
2. Defeat any efforts to reduce the number of Public Union Employees
3. Raise taxes on all citizens with high income
4. Support comprehensive immigration reform by immediately passing the Dream Act which would put illegal immigrant children through college and endear Hispanics to their progressive movement and the Democratic Party.

It is obvious that the commies feel they can take over if they can get enough people into unions and provide amnesty to illegal immigrants. I challenge anyone to find one thing in Obama's play book that is not in the play book of the Communist Party of the USA."

Well said, Scott,

Jim
