Unaccustomed to initiating conversations Billy Roy Mitchum, local country and western star, lowered his voice to draw the coffee drinkers in, "Seems strange to me that we call the Iraq War the bad war when their dictator has control of the second largest oil reserves in the world, a big army, and a huge threat to his neighbors who have most of the other oil reserves. Then we call Afghanistan the good war when they have no oil and mostly just dope. Now to top it off, Obama wants to encourage any and everybody in the Middle East and Northern Africa to overthrow their governments. One thing we do know is that all of these countries are Islamic with radicals in control or they want to be in control."
"Yes, BM, but aren't the guys running these other countries bad guys and don't we want democracies", asked Butch.
BM loved the question, "There are no good solutions in Islam, only bad or worse. My guess is Obama is going WORSE. And of course Hillary won't know the difference. Most countries like Libya, Egypt, Saudi Arabia, Yemen, Bahrain, and Jordan are either run by royal families or dictators. Let's call them strongmen. These strongmen have kept the Islamic Radical Clerics who want to lead a worldwide Jihad against all non-believers (they call it a world-wide caliphate) under control for years. These strongmen dictators have been considered 'moderates' but strong as hell. They put down rebellions very quickly and with great force. The last time we had a big sissy in the White House, one Jimmy Carter, he allowed the overthrow of the Shah of Iran, and you know how that resulted. The radical jihadists will come in after any so called 'democratic revolt' and take over. These guys are about as democratic as the Democratic congressmen in Wisconsin."
"The current White House sissy is developing a pattern. He initially calls any revolution a peaceful demonstration by citizens with legitimate complaints of their government. When the demonstrators escalate, like in Libya where they overran a military base and captured big weapons, our President then voices his concern that the government must not use force against their own 'citizens'. In Egypt and Libya our leader then asked the dictator to step down not having any idea, nor apparently caring, who the revolutionaries were or who they would turn out to be. Thank goodness in Egypt the military is still in control. What is becoming clear is that Barack Hussein Obama is very supportive of any overthrow of government where a dictator or royal family is in control. He goes soft when the government is run by radical Islamic clerics or mullahs like in Iran."
Butch got it, "Now he has the UN helping overthrow these governments. Don't the Europeans know their countries will be even flooded more by immigrants fleeing all this violence. These large Muslim populations in Europe will then be a part of the caliphate of the future. Hell, Islam is on a roll. Real revolutionaries in Libya would be yelling, 'Down With Islam'. All I have heard is 'Up With Islam'. The 50% of Muslims represented by the fairer sex (that would be women) will rue the disappearance of the 'dictators' as the new leaderships will quickly replace the dictator rule with sharia law. Saddam Hussein and the Baath socialists were actually good for women and minorities. Look at Iraq today as they struggle to put in a real democracy. The USA doesn't have allies on either side of the struggle in Libya. This is one in which we should have declared a strict neutrality."
"Well, I don't like anything about Moammar Qaddafi. He was always a thug, and, during the Cold War, he was very solidly the Soviet Bloc's thug, and an outspoken enemy of the USA. But, for the past couple of decades, the Muslim world seems to have been proving to the rest of the world that the only way to keep Muslims from eating each other alive is putting a thug over them," summed up Billy Roy.
Scott Riddle entered as things began to wind down, "Complex situations. Lot's of shades of gray. One thing is for certain. We as a country have no idea what Obama's agenda is in the Middle East. The only thing we are certain of he is completely incapable of providing any kind of American principled leadership. And then we have Hillary. Every meeting between Hillary and Obama has been, and will always be, in a completely empty room. On the other hand, their incompetence might just keep us out of trouble. It is clear that the rest of the world thinks we are now irrelevant until after 2012."
"With gasoline at $3.55 a gallon, an increase of 47 cents a gallon since the beginning of the year up from $2.78 a year ago, and a $223 billion deficit in February alone the Socialists could use a good little war in Libya where our big ships can sit off the coast and shoot missiles at Libya's military targets. It is just like a training exercise."

Why Bubba Lee Don't Like Chicago
"Darned those guys in the Middle East. They are like a big wad of gum or even worse on Obama's election 2012 campaign back in Chicago," opened up Butch who had been reading his Stratfor reports. "Israel Defense Forces launched a manhunt March 12 for the perpetrators of an attack that took place the previous night in a West Bank settlement. In the attack, the suspect broke into an Israeli home in Itamar settlement and stabbed to death the father, mother and three children, aged 11, three and a one-month old baby. Wonder how long it will take the Chicago guys to admit this could be connected to Muslim Jihadist Terrorism? Don't want to step on anyone's toes here. However, these evil animals did stab the kids multiple times in their hearts.
Meanwhile in a big deal the Saudis have taken military action to stop the attempt to overthrow the government in Bahrain, a US ally. This poses a huge problem for Iran who is stirring up Shiite uprisings in Bahrain and Saudi Arabia, along with creating mischief in Afghanistan and Iraq. Iran anxiously awaits the US pull out in Iraq where they have the support of the radical Shiite population there. Obama has a problem. When he pulls out they go in. Decisions, decisions! What works best for Campaign 2012? How do you apply Chicago Style Politics to the Middle East? Wisconsin is just a lot easier for Obama and his Chicago Socialist thugs. Wouldn't surprise me if the message flowing from Chicago to Iran was 'just lay off until after 2012, and then do what you want'. Just call it turf distribution or spreading the wealth or transforming the Middle East. It is amazing how the Jewish vote goes to Obama no matter how badly he throws Israel under the train. Every Jewish voter should get special delivery pictures of that Israeli family."
Bubba Lee Barnes doesn't talk much, probably because he is one of the few at the Cafe that still saucers his coffee, but something caused an outburst, "When I think about world affairs being run out of Chicago, Illinois it scares me so much I have to fight back a bowel movement." Might add that Bubba Lee doesn't get scared very often, like some would say 'never'. Bubba Lee must not like Chicago.
Bubba's statement set the conversation back somewhat before Butch came back changing the subject, "On this budget thing the Chicago guys are hoping to blame what they call a government shutdown on the Republicans to protect old Skinny from never having a budget while he bankrupts us as part of his transformation. In my opinion this country needs a government SLOWDOWN in the worst way. What would cease? Well, not the functions of government that most people consider important, which would continue as they have in past government SLOWDOWNS. Social Security checks would arrive; doctors and hospitals would provide medical services to seniors, veterans, and the poor; the mail would be delivered; our troops and national defenses would continue to protect us; law enforcement at our border wouldn't get any worse; protection of life and property would go on as before. O.K. maybe Planned Parenthood and people like NPR (Nasty Politics Radio) wouldn't get their TAXPAYER checks, but that's a good thing."
"The government would SLOW DOWN, not shut down. I say bring it on and the sooner the better."
Billy Roy had the numbers on this day which really took Butch back a little, "The U.S. government posted a budget deficit of $222.5 billion in February, the largest monthly deficit on record, even Obama's
Treasury Department admitted. Compare this to 2007 when we had a deficit of $161billion FOR THE ENTIRE YEAR. The government spent about $333 billion in February and took in about $110 billion. And Obama is worried about gasoline prices hurting his big recovery. This government SLOWDOWN would happen because the Dems can't agree on the big old Republican spending cut of $57 billion which would be 1.6% of this year's deficit. The Dems want to cut .13 of one per cent. For a family making $40,000 this would be like them cutting spending by $4 for the year as compared to the Republican plan in which the family would have to cut $4 per month. Only in Washington would they allow the Chicago thugs to manipulate such a ridiculous charade."
If I knew any big words I would call the Skinny guy in the White House completely delusional. On the other hand I guess he just reads what they send him from Chicago. I would work on learning some bigger words myself but it seems to me they don't fit into songs very well. And besides I am told there is a new poll out that says only 3% of the people think that those folks up north coming out of those Ivy League schools make better workers than the rest of us. Guess that is why we elect em President, let em run Wall Street, fix Global Warming, and stuff like that. It keeps em out of the way of the people in Chicago who are running the free world all based on winning the 2012 election. Some of this just don't seem right to the simple folks I talk to who know those February numbers are like Ivy Leaguers. They just don't work for long."

Ain't No Compromise at the Hubbard City Cafe
Scott Riddle, insurance tycoon and renowned cattle man in and about Hill County has talked for many years about something he calls "idiot pitches". It is sorta like the old saying about suckers being a dime a dozen. His latest example has to do with something viewed as wonderful by many citizens, and even some Republican politicians, compromise and bi-partisanship. "When the Dems had a President and majorities in the Senate and House they said we won, you lost, eat crap. They even jury rigged passing Obamacare to avoid a legitimate Senate filibuster. Now that Republicans have a majority in the House, all we hear is compromise, compromise. We hear it on health care, on budgets, on everything. And we all know a compromise with Obama is 'I win, you lose, eat crap'."
Scotty Anderson, another Hubbard City insurance tycoon, almost jumped to his feet (I said almost), "The biggest and most dangerous idiot pitch on compromise isn't even health care or the budget. The Socialists are making a big push to convince folks that since jobs, the economy, and the deficit are such important issues that we should call a 'truce' on social issues. So let's not get into things like abortion and the definition of marriage. Let's just continue funding Planned Parenthood's practice of aborting babies carried by young teens and poor minorities, along with anyone else who finds a pregnancy 'inconvenient'. Also, we will not try to pass laws to redefine marriage right now, we will just tell our Attorney General to stop enforcing existing laws that define marriage as a legal bond between one man and one woman. Even many so called conservatives are agreeing with this 'compromise' which is really just pure and simple surrender. They win, we lose, eat crap."
Billy Roy with sheer delight entered the conversation since this is one of his very favorite subjects, "Many folks in this country like to claim they are Reagan Republicans on fiscal issues, but don't like to get into 'social' issues because that's not their business. Some say 'I am a fiscal conservative and a social libertarian'. Now ain't that sophisticated.
The founders established this republic on the principle of self rule and that we are all given with unalterable rights from our Creator. They said from day one that if citizens were not responsible, moral, and respecting of each other's rights this form of government would fail. The Reagan doctrine was based on the Conservative Principles of economic freedom, national defense, and CIVIL SOCIETY. In creating and maintaining a citizenship capable of self government real conservative leaders know the defense of the family unit, the protection of religious freedom, and the protection and life and liberty are essential in preparing the next generation for economic success and for the defense of the homeland. All statistics say the breakdown of the family, and the church, result in a breakdown of our civil society. Every Communist, atheist, and Jihadist (or anyone else) dedicated to destroying the most successful country in world history (that would be us) knows this. And don't think for a minute a little skinny, flop eared; community organizer, who admittedly wants to 'transform America', doesn't know this. The question is, 'do so called conservative patriots realize that Fiscal Responsibility and National Defense can only stand on a strong 'Social and Civil Society'.'
In picking our nominee for 2012 we desperately need a leader who understands healthy marriage and stable family structures who are supported by healthy local churches and schools are not compromisable. A leader of this ilk is best suited to make informed decisions about the best ways to decrease federal spending, reduce the national deficit, defend the homeland, and promote a flourishing society."
In a rare moment, Mom summed it all up, "We are making marriage rare (75% of Black and 29% of White children are born out of wedlock), divorce easy (50% of American adults are single), and kids who live in homes without dads the norm. One third of our families are living on payments from TAXPAYERS with government welfare promoters as the middle men. These kids from broken homes are five times more likely to live in poverty than those with both parents and twice as likely to drop out of school. As hard as it is to grow up without a dad, there is a far worse fate: not growing up at all because our generation did not protect the child's life in their own mother's womb. And we give lip service to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness for all. Clearly a baby in the womb is the most helpless of all, and the most in need of protection. And somehow we accept that it is a mother's choice to end this life, and then set up TAXPAYER funded factories that encourage the practice."
Maybe those Social Libertarians aren't so sophisticated after all. Their desire for a responsible fiscal government will never happen in a corrupted civil society. Just ask the ancient Greeks, Romans, and Communists.
If America fails, it will not fail because of excess spending or even massive deficits. Nor will it fail because Jihadist fanatics have declared war on this great nation. It will fail because our Civil Society is corrupt and our citizens have elected officials that support their immoral addictions.

Be A Good Boy and Go Play Your Fiddle
Somehow Butch was able to capture a memo from the White House again. Here it is:
Date: March 6, 2011
From: Valerie Jarret, Closeted Commander in Chief
To: BHO, Full Time Candidate for the President of the United States in 2012
Major Weekly Goals:
1. Don't screw anything up.
2. Make every effort to look good to your targeted voters for 2012 Re-election.
3. Stay out of my way.
Specifics:
1. Make meaningless announcements of our inaction in all foreign affairs. Particularly, those regarding "demonstrations" in the Middle East. "Examples: The situation is volatile. We are against violence. We are monitoring the situation closely. All options are on the table. We are in very active discussions with our International Partners. Lastly, if it is fairly certain a leader will be overthrown, and then say 'he must go'. If wrong, we can always walk it back."
2. Make statements regarding "demonstrations" in states like Wisconsin in support of Labor Union partners like "we are against union bashing'. Do not even try to understand the budget issues much less comment on them.
3. Be aware that gasoline (fuel for automobiles) has increased 33 cents this week. Blame Libya and comment that you are concerned that this might slow down your economic recovery plan. If pressed blame Republicans for not passing Cap and Trade which would have us energy independent but don't comment on any dates or specifics.
4. Make every effort to get the Press to focus on the upcoming "round ball tournament".
5. If asked about the Federal Budget, repeat that you have VP Biden focused on working with stubborn Republicans. By the way, I have sent Biden to Europe to get him out of the way but don't comment on this.
Billy Roy actually complimented the President,”He is following script pretty well. The thing that is driving me the craziest right now is how some things don't change. With Jihadist Islamic Terrorists, Obama wants to treat them like any other potential criminal. Wait until there is an infraction (that would be a terrorist murder), don't jump to conclusions until authorities investigate (that would be the FBI), and then use the criminal justice system to have the guilty suffer the consequences. Absolutely keep the CIA out of it, and above all, never admit violators are Muslims much less that there is any connection between the 22 attacks in the first two years of his administration.
And now he takes the same approach with Quadaffi in Libya. His terrorist regime is engaged in destroying those who are attempting to overthrow his government. Obama says it is up to Quadaffi as to what actions he takes, but warns he will be held accountable. Most of these people think if they die for Alla they live in paradise. I just wonder how Obama is going to hold these folks living in paradise accountable. We have gone from a Bush led pre-emptive War on Terror to find, capture or kill, and stop the murdering Jihadists before they strike to this mamby pamby 'don't screw anything up' leadership. Obama doesn't care if it is a friendly ally from Egypt, a terrorist murderer from Libya, or the Israelis. Obama doesn't care about anyone but Obama. He plans to treat them all the same. He just wants to not get involved, not screw up, and try to look good to voters."
Scott Riddle summed it up, "Well Nero fiddled while Rome burned. Next thing you know they will get Obama a fiddle."

A Message to Obama: A Rush To Democracy Is Not Always A Good Thing
As the press and Obama criticize Qaddafi for "murdering his own people" it makes me wonder what Obama would do if his opposition attacked a military base and took tanks and other weapons which they would use to attempt to overthrow the current government when not setting autos and buildings on fire. Would Obama "give in to the will of the people" or would he act more like Abe Lincoln when those peaceful Southern protesters wanted to go their own way? Just a thought.
Guess what? The rights of life, liberty, and property—are even more important than a short lived show of democracy. This coming from a God fearing conservative capitalist from Texas (that would be me).
Follow this closely. The US should do everything in our capability to lead international efforts in denying Arab mobs the right to overthrow USA friendly governments followed by elections. We should work to deny them until these Islamic countries can guarantee minorities their rights and until we are assured they can remain at peace with America and the Free World. Sound crazy? Not if we base our policies on what we have learned from history lessons with experiences in countries like Iran. John Bolton, former US Ambassador to the UN has learned from his experience when he speaks of elections in these Middle Eastern countries that want to get rid of their dictatorial leaders, "Participation in the elections, whenever scheduled, should be limited to real political parties. From Mussolini to Putin, from Hamas to Hezbollah, terrorists, totalitarians and their ilk masquerading as political parties do not really believe in representative government." Many times the end result is: one man, one vote, one time.
To move from a friendly dictator or monarchy to a totalitarian socialist or Islamic regime is to jump from the frying pan into the fire. And since the Middle East sits on top of 70% of the world's known oil reserves, a peaceful and stable political environment is critical to all. No one likes to admit that the Middle East is 'special' but it would be absurd to not admit it. The Free World, US included, is a long way from being self-sufficient in providing our own supplies of energy. If Obama has an energy policy it is a perverted plan to support his pals like Algore and George Soros in driving up the price of fossil fuels, limiting their production, and using tax money to make Algore and crew richer all behind the banner of Global Warming. Stratfor, the Austin based security consultant, says, 'We are now less concerned about popular protest than we are about the Iranians instigating events and for the Iranians taking out an oil competitor is a perfectly legitimate course of action from their point of view. And in this case we got roughly 10,000,000 barrels per day at potential risk primarily in Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, and Iraq."
In Egypt the Muslim Brotherhood will do everything possible to turn this revolt to their advantage—an advantage they will only press if the Egyptian army gives up power too quickly. Hopefully the Egyptian Military will move slowly and let real political parties emerge before they hold elections. Also, there is nothing wrong in banning dangerous parties from participating. For years the US banned the Communist Party. Of course, our leader in the White House says they, "must bring all of Egypt's voices to the table". This leaves us with our usual question about Obama. Is he naive, incompetent, or supporting the wrong side?
Again, it appears two more of our unarmed and unsecured soldiers were murdered by an Islamic Terrorist in Germany. The ABC News Bulletin read like this: Gunman Shouting 'Allah Akbar' Kills 2 US Airmen in Germany,' by Luis Martinez and Richard Esposito for ABC News, March 2.: A gunman shouting 'Allah Akbar' opened fire on a bus carrying U.S. airmen in Frankfurt, Germany, killing two and wounding two others before his gun jammed and he was subdued, officials said.
An ethnic Albanian from Germany was taken into custody and the FBI was heading an investigation because U.S. citizens were killed to determine whether the shooting was an act of terrorism. It is not clear even what they mean by that at this point. What actually would constitute a terrorist attack? Would the murderer have to announce that he was about to carry out a terrorist attack before he started shooting? Would he have to be carrying an al-Qaeda membership card as he cried, "Allah Akbar" and possibly "Jihad, jihad." It was a jihad attack. But of course the Obama administration has canceled our 'war on terror' and is treating it like just regular criminal investigations and prosecutions. They refuse to call this a terrorist attack. They never learn. While the Homeland Security analysts secretly classified the Fort Hood shooting a terrorist attack within 48 hours, it was 7 weeks before Obama’s administration would admit it. Again we have to ask is he naïve, incompetent, or shielding radical Muslims for some reason. None of these choices are acceptable to describe the once leader of the free world.

TUFF is for Everyone Except the Political Elite
Billy Roy commented on some of my emails from PHD types who think the folks at the Hubbard City Cafe are uneducated and bigoted. Billy Roy says, "A blockhead is defined as 'a stupid person'. None other than Benjamin Franklyn nailed it when he said, 'A learned blockhead is a greater blockhead than an ignorant one'. Seems many times the Communists and Progressives are led by the educated political elites who think if they can get in charge they can make everything OK (at least for themselves). Elites being people like Obama who spent years drugged out as other people paid for several levels of his alleged education. The real elite like Obama don't even have to get transcripts or diplomas or anything like that. Hell, I would rather look for Jimmy Hoffa's body than try to find Obama's transcript from Columbia. Of course to get elected they have to buy folks off. Much of what they buy them off with, we who live in cow country, would call bullshit. Guess we should talk about TAXPAYERS some since that guy in the parking lot is carrying that sign with 'TUFF HQS' on it.
So the political elite want to separate the folks into the makers (TAXPAYERS) and the takers (those who think they are getting more than they are giving), and of course, the political elite care so much about the poor folks they will take care of them. Elites like Castro, Stalin, Mao, Chavez, etc. have a proven track record of 'taking care of the folks'."
Oops, as is apt to happen when Billy Roy kicks things off, here comes Butch, "For example some voters are led to believe that Obama will tax the rich and help the 'middle class' which many feel are those who don't pay taxes. If you look at income taxes alone there is some truth to this. In 2009, 47% of the US households paid no taxes and many got money back. A family with two children making $50,000 paid no income taxes. These family's making $25,000 paid no income taxes and got a check for $7,085. However, if you include Social Security taxes, only 24% of households pay no taxes. What those hoping to avoid taxes don't get is they are still taxed plenty. There are hundreds of other ways the government gets us all such as sales taxes, energy taxes, license fees, real estate taxes, death taxes, lotteries, and the biggest one of all is in the regulation area. Every time the government passes a regulation that increases the price of any product this increase is passed along to the consumer.
The Libs also love to lie about how the rich are making out like bandits, and each year it gets worse in favor of the wealthy. The facts are in 1987 the top 5% of taxpayers paid 43% of all income taxes. In 2008 the top 5% paid 58% of all income taxes. The top 10% pay 70%. In fact the United States depend on the top 10% of TAXPAYERS for their revenues more than any other country in the world according to the Tax Foundation. The top 50% pay 97%.
Obama still wants to raise taxes on all married couples earning over $250,000 and singles making over $200,000 despite the fact that 25% of all spending comes from this group. Honest estimates are that raising taxes on this group, which includes most small business owners, would cost 770,000 jobs within 12 months from the increase.
If we continue to over tax those who spend and hire they tend to hit the road. TAXPAYERS in states like New York and California are flocking to states like Texas. Wealthy people are leaving the country for friendlier lower-taxed countries. An ex-patriate attorney says he alone has 100 applications pending at this time. This is more than the previous 18 years combined."
Billy Roy rescued the folks from the number crunching, "Back to the Bullshit. The unions and Obama are spewing it around all the state capitals now. They don't want folks to know that government unions are inherently different from private-sector unions. The purpose of private-sector unions is to get workers a larger share of the profits they helped create. But government is a monopoly and earns no profits. All government unions do is redistribute more tax dollars from taxpayers to unions to crooked politicians. The left used to understand this. Not only did President Franklin Delano Roosevelt write in 1937: 'All government employees should realize that the process of collective bargaining, as usually understood, cannot be transplanted into the public service,' but as recently as 1959, the AFL-CIO Executive Council stated that 'government workers have no right [to collectively bargain] beyond the authority to petition Congress—a right available to every citizen'. And of course even Jimmy Carter passed legislation that stands to this day that federal workers can not collectively bargain. Folks, these are the people working for Obama today. And yet he wants to force unions on the states and local governments. It never ceases to amaze me how dumb Obama thinks we are."
"Seems to me that it might make sense to think about these TUFF guys (TAXPAYERS UNION FOR the FOLKS) at least a little bit."

TAXPAYER UNION FOR the FOLKS (TUFF)
Scotty Anderson came in with an interesting comment this week, "Don't know why people don't try Jesus because if they don't like it, the devil will always take em back." Made a lot of sense to me. This seemed like a pretty logical way to introduce a major new political movement that will be headquartered right here in the Hubbard City Cafe, except on Sundays of course. Two or three folks have been marching in the parking lot for the last couple of days demanding the folks get TUFF. Under questioning this writer was able to find out that TUFF is the secret code name for TAXPAYERS UNION FOR the FOLKS.
Not knowing at the present time whether this is an idea that will catch on or not, it seems this idea is currently an orphan in that no one is claiming the very origination of such. Those of us that have been following the Cafe for some time feel like it smells a little like something Butch might have started with a wink from Billy Roy himself. Under further questioning it seems many the of folks are beginning to feel like everybody has somebody representing their interest except those few people who actually PAY TAXES. For example when mostly Republicans want to make a tax cut which seems like it would enable folks to keep what really is some of their own money, mostly the other side being Democrats say "it isn't paid for". In other words you have to tax somebody else to make up for not taxing those who got the cut. Seems these government people believe it is their money not TAXPAYER'S money that has to be paid for.
Then you have this "public employee" thing going on in most of the Yankee States. Teachers, cops, firemen, and other people who are paid by TAXPAYERS are made to join unions, that is if they want to work. The unions make the states take dues out of the workers checks. They unions keep a big part of the money, and then bribe politicians with the rest with what they call political contributions. Then the bribed politicians negotiate with the unions to raise salaries and give away pensions and health care to the people who are supposed to be public servants. All of this is paid for by TAXPAYERS. We have been around and round this little "circle of corruption" so many times now that the "public employees" make 30% higher salaries on average and 70% better pensions and health care than "private sector" folks (that would be the real TAXPAYERS). Union leaders say public servants pay taxes too. What they don't say is that they pay their taxes with the money they get from TAXPAYERS. The more taxes they pay the more money the union and politicians will get for them from TAXPAYERS.
In the worst cases, we have been around these circles so many times that some cops can retire at the age of 41. Now I like policeman but I also like them working a little longer than that. Most of these Yankee states, and even some of those in the South, are completely bankrupt. They have "unfunded liabilities". This is fancy talk for they have promised pensions and health care for retired employees, and they don't have the money to pay them. Guess they didn't put the money away in the "lock box" that Algore used to lie about. Who would have thought that politicians and union leaders would have lied to the folks about the promised pensions that someone else would have to pay after those who made the promises were long gone. As they say at the Cafe, "now the shit has hit the fan".
The unions do other little things like giving teachers "seniority" after only three years. This means they can not be fired no matter how bad they are at teaching or not teaching our kids. If you are to be laid off, you have to be given at least a 7 month notice in some states. Union members have no say so as to which politicians get the contributions. Not even which political party. So many of the folks are contributing to politicians that they don't even vote for. And of course in many states a new cop, fireman, or teacher has no choice as to whether they want to join the union. Unions will not allow local schools to use "merit pay plans" to compensate good teachers and incent bad teachers to get better. So who do you think the unions are working for, their dues payers or the kids and TAXPAYERS.
The folks at the cafe have studied this public sector "circle of corruption" real closely. They are unable at this date to find who in this circle represents the TAXPAYERS. The guys newly elected to governorships in Wisconsin, Ohio, and New Jersey are trying to change some of this stuff. Even the Democratic governors in New York and California are having to show some concern due to their impending bankrupcies. And what do the press and unions accuse them of doing? "Union Busting". They are called names like Hitler and Dictator. Demonstrators are marching against them saying the teachers only care about the kids. I guess the cops only care about the crooks, and the fireman only care about the fires. My Great Grand Mother, Meemaw, used to tell me, "if you lay down with the dogs, you get fleas". Public employees have been laying down with politicians and union thugs, and now they are filthy and itching all over, and with open sores at that. It is a shame too, because there are a lot of good cops, fireman, and teachers (even in the Yankee states). The truth is their greed has made them lose they way. This system is corrupt and wrong by any one's standards. We have ignored the evil of public sector collective bargaining for too long.
What a terrible example our public employees are setting for the kids. Liberty is freedom with responsibilities. Public employees are not free, nor responsible when they are serving the unions thugs and sleazy politicians at the expense of TAXPAYERS and the public.
Back to TUFF. When I ask what the folks are planning to do first, they answered, "Not sure but we might just collectively bargain (heard this on TV). Maybe we don't pay our taxes until the government quits spending more money than they have. You know. Stuff like that. Or maybe we quit paying our school taxes if our teachers are working for unions instead of us. Seems like if all the TAXPAYERS did little things like that, the politicians might pay us a little attention, too."
Thinking about a little TUFF love,
Jim
