Since the University of Texas is the state university being a land grant school and all, and since many folks at the Hubbard City Cafe are big time football fans to say the least, and therefore since these two powerful forces come together every fall, you might say there is some excessive hooking of horns about this time of year. Some of the Cafe loyal ain't happy!!
"Seems like UT has gotten a little too big for their britches. Prior to the arrival of Mack Brown, the UT elite seemed to cut ties to alumni and fans. Everything was about the big bucks and a handful of contributors that ran everything. Long time faithful season ticket holders were forced out because they wouldn't make large contributions to go along with high ticket prices. Meanwhile UT lost it's status as a national power. When Brown arrived he was somewhat smart in bringing Darrel Royal back into the fold and catering to alumni and Texas high school football coaches around the state. This was a great move and resulted in phenomenal recruiting which made up for really bad coaching from Brown, Gregg Davis, and crew," Butch opened the discussion with a history lesson and some editorial comments as well. "Great players like Rickie Williams, Vince Young, and a skinny kid named Applewhite made up for a lack of creativity and softness in coaching. UCLA players said Texas players 'look like Tarzan, play like Jane'. Those who were kind said the Mack Brown scheme was built on execution. This meant Mack did great as long as his players were twice as good as your well coached players."

With UT stinking it up last year with only 5 victories and 2 at home due to horrible coaching from Mack Brown's pals the arrogance ran amuck. Brown got mad at fans, press, and everyone else who criticized him. This past Saturday night was the first time in years where I felt UT 'outcoached' their opponent, that being Rice."
"So is Texas elite arrogance under control. Not even close. They have destroyed the Big Twelve Conference in a way that most Texans would be ashamed of if they knew the facts. Sheer greed and arrogance have created a Longhorn Network among other things that has already driven Colorado and Nebraska out of the conference with Texas A&M in the process of leaving. Oklahoma, Missouri, and Oklahoma State will make moves in the next few weeks."

Aunt Martha, local librarian and columnist of much local renown, introduced the little discussed topic of academics, "How about arrogance in admissions. Our state land grant school is not open to most Texas kids while admitting non-citizens from all over the world. Their professors rarely teach and bask in their academic standings instead of educating and preparing TEXAS KIDS. It is the same elite arrogant attitude that rules athletics. Mack seems to spend a good part of his time just trying to get his 'student atheletes' out of jail."
BM summed up, "Rarely do I call for government interference, but in this case I think Texas legislators need to get off their asses and represent the taxpayers and sports fans of the great State of Texas and clear some elite and arrogant asses out of 40 acres. I would start with Dodds and Brown and the University President and the Board of Regents. Next they should unload tons of professors who are not shouldering their teaching load. Give our University back to the folks."

Cafe Joins With Obama On A Three Step Program To Save America
Whoa, strange things are happening at the Cafe. Both Butch and Billy Roy pulled up in the parking lot this week with huge 'Obama' bumper stickers. What??
What with Obama coming out Thursday in an NFL pregame show to save America (one more time) the folk's at the Cafe are pretty excited. Seems they are taking the President at his word that he is putting all politics aside and is going to,"just focus on getting America back to work while putting money into the pockets of American families."
Evidently Butch and Billy Roy are getting leaks from the White House because they were pre-empting their newly found favorite President with the major points of his address.
Butch says, "At last this President is living up to the expectations the American people have for him. This address Thursday will give, not only the nation, but the world more 'hope' than any action a President has ever taken. And the 'change' will be unprecedented."
"Right on Butch, and he is keeping it simple with just a plain three step program. We probably shouldn't be doing this but Butch and I are going to leak the key points just to the Cafe, and you guys will see why we are so excited. Hold on to your seats, and here we go!"
"Step One: Vice President Biden will resign his office immediately taking a job as a conductor on his favorite train in Delaware.
Step Two: President Obama will resign his office immediately joining Qaddafi in applying for membership in the Algerian Golf and Country Club.
Step Three: President Boehner will submit the following bills to Congress immediately
1. Repeal Obamacare.
2. Repeal Dodd/Frank Financial Regulations.
3. Freeze EPA from releasing new regulations.
4. Eliminate double taxation on American companies when they bring overseas profits back to the US.
5. Simplify and reform the tax system by lowering tax rates and expanding the tax base.
6. Eliminate Capital Gains taxes.
7. Pass a balanced budget amendment."
Mom had a question, "Why so much regulation stuff?"
"Because as we speak," BM loved this question, "the Federal Government is suing 17 major American Banks for making loans, while at the same time, criticizing them for not lending money. The government forced these banks to make loans to their constituents who could not repay the mortagages on their homes. They told the banks not to worry because Freddie and Fannie would buy the loans and make everything OK. Now they are suing the banks for misrepresenting the quality of these loans to poor Freddie and Fannie who the govenment is bailing out with taxpayer money. This is what happens when the government gets involved in what should be free markets. Regulations lead to manipulation which leads to diaster."
And the coffee drinkers joined Butch and BM in praising the President with a big "AMEN".

Retraction Of The Welfare Story
The story, "Making Obama-babies and Money in the Good Old USA" posted on August 20 was allegedly about a welfare ggrandmother receiving $1,500 per child and more than $144,000 annually by serving a a foster parent for her daughters children appears to have several misstated facts and maybe entirely untrue. It was supposed to be based on a letter from a Sebastian J. Ciancio, M.D. Urologist, Danville Polyclinic, LTD. This doctor reported that he heard the story from someone who was admitted to the emergency room. The State of Illinois pays more like $400 per child instead of the reported $1,500. Several other things in the report are highly questionable.
I sincerely apologize for not fact checking this letter before I posted it. I am also grateful for a regular blog reader calling this to my attention.
This unfortunant report does not change the fact that our welfare system is out of control and fraught with fraud as evidenced by the following facts:
Despite spending $4 Trillion from 2002 to 2009 our poverty rate increased from 12% to 14%, a 16% increase.
So is our spending at fault in not preventing additional proverty? From the year 2002 to 2011 we had the following percentage increases in spending in these welfare categories:
Medicaid up 87%
Food Stamps 256%
Child Nutrition 82%
Energy Assistance 190%
Tax Credits 353%
Today 53% of immigrants to the USA receive some form of government assistance. Many of these are illegals.
The most destructive aspect of this wealth redistribution is the creation of a culture of dependence and reliance. Some call it a "nanny state". While that is clearly the intent of the elite ruling class it will ultimately destroy our way of life if it remains unchecked. Our country is built on self reliance and hard work, and then charity only in rare situations and always under close supervision. Today welfare is not rare and the 50+ million Americans that receive it are not means tested nor monitored.
Again sorry for the misinformation, but not for the message.

I feel those who are perpetrating these wealth redistribution plans to buy votes (Obama, Reid, Pelosi, etc.) should be insulted along with those who participate in milking the system. An Obama-baby would be one that was born out of wedlock to increase a mother's welfare check. No child should be used for this purpose.

No Ethics, No Competence, No Growth
Seems like economic growth in the US and Europe is negative to near zero. Why? We are told that companies are not employing people and expanding. They are sitting on trillions of dollars. Likewise, consumers are not spending. Why aren't they? To understand it let's review our recent history.
The financial elite had a little problem. They made a lot of bad loans, mostly in real estate, packaged them in bundles and sold them to other financial institutions. It was like passing along a hot potato. When foreclosures mounted it all hit the fan. However, the elite did make a ton of money in the process. People found out their financial elite were not only incompetent but were also unethical.
Along come the political elite to the financial elite's rescue. They deem their brothers too big to fail, and armed with our and our children and grandchildren's money (taxpayers), they bail them out. Yet, the political elite don’t hold anyone responsible for wrecking the economy of most of the free world. Why? Maybe because they had aided and abetted the scam by encouraging, if not forcing, them to make these bad loans to gain votes while keeping interest rates low to make it easier. All American’s had a RIGHT to own their own home, right? They even assured their financial contributors they would back them up with Fannie and Freddie. Lastly, they passed new financial regulations even though they never enforced the old ones. And you can never replace ethics with regulations even if you did enforcement. So people found out that their political elite were not only incompetent but also unethical.
So why don't the American people have confidence in the financial and political institutions? Why do they want to put their money in a coffee can and bury it in their back yards? They know there is nothing as dangerous as incompetent and unethical people in high places. In other words, our elites suck!
So what is our solution? Throw the bums out and replace them with the likes of Marco Rubio, or Paul Ryan, or Mitch Daniels! Maybe even appoint a Secretary of the Treasury that doesn't come from Goldman Sachs.
But let's start at the top. Even though Obama came late to the financial party, the crisis party, he is clearly incompetent beyond belief and an incredibly unethical liar as evidenced by Obamacare which will do more damage than the financial crisis if implemented. Let's face the truth. Affirmative action at the White House level has us in a helluva fix. Affirmative action poisons every well, including the minorities it is supposed to be helping. Let's get over our guilt and truly treat everyone the same.
And our big question is which of our candidates is not elite? Which one is a Reagan instead of a Bush or a McCain? Even if they are ethical and somewhat competent, the elite will ultimately compromise with the elite resulting in a ruling class. Our founders left Europe to escape the ruling class. Which candidate is competent? Which one is ethical? Is it Romney, Perry, or Bachmann? Or must we kidnap Chris Christie and force him to run? Let's hope we figure it out over the next few months. We failed miserably in 2008.

Making Obama-babies and Money in the Good Old USA
The cafe is buzzing this week over a story forwarded from one of the blog's friends in the big city of Dallas. Here is why?
"This is preposterous! An emergency room physician told me that a woman in her late 20's came to the ER today with her 8th pregnancy. She told the first doctor she saw: 'My Mama told me that I am the breadwinner for the family.' He asked her to explain. She said that she can make babies and babies get money from the State for the family. It goes like this: The Grandma calls the Department of Child & Family Services, and states that the unemployed daughter is not capable of caring for all of her kids. DCFS (Department of Child and Family Services)agrees, and tells her the children will need to go into foster care.
The Grandma then volunteers to be the foster parent, and receives a check for $1500 per child each month in Illinois. Total yearly income:$144,000 tax-free and nobody has to go to work!
In fact, they get more if there is no husband/father/man in the home!
Not to mention free healthcare (Medicaid), plus a monthly card entitling them to free groceries and a voucher for 250 free Obamaphone minutes each month. This does not include Women, Infants, and Children (WIC provides Federal grants to States for supplemental foods, health care referrals, and nutrition education for low-income pregnant, breastfeeding, and non-breastfeeding postpartum women, and to infants and children up to age five who are found to be at nutritional risk) and other welfare benefits... Indeed, Grandma was correct that her fertile daughter is the 'breadwinner' for the family.
This is how the liberal politicians spend our tax dollars. When this generous program was invented in the '60s, the Great Society architects (remember LBJ) forgot to craft an end date... and now we are hopelessly overrun with people who vote only for those who will continue to keep them on the dole.... No wonder our country is broke! Worse, the Muslims have been paying attention, and by mandating that each Muslim family have eleven children, they will soon replace the voting bloc above and can be running this country within 50 years.
Are we alarmed yet?

Awe Heck, Algore and Barrack Are Going To Need A New Scam
The news is leaking out that that several months ago the Chicago Climate Exchange closed its doors after receiving no orders to trade carbon credits for a full 10 months. To jog your memory this was a scam by people like Algore, Goldman Sachs, and of course, our beloved leader BHO who has lots of stock stashed away in a trust fund until he gets out of office. The scam failed when the Cap and Trade Bill that would force companies and others like farmers and ranchers to buy credits to release carbon into the air (like we do when we breathe) failed.
Below I have reprinted this blog's July 19, 2010 posting about the Exchange and, on a local basis, how this Global Warming issue was playing out in Hubbard City at that time. This posting has clearly been the most popular as measured by visitors who have visited this blog site.

Trading Cow Fart Credits (CFCs)?
Those of you who have been following this blog for some time know that downtown Hubbard City suffers from Global Warming every July and August. Those of the current Ruling Class who take their coffee at the Hubbard City Drugstore blame the warming on excessive gas expelled by cows who reside on land owned and operated by one Scott Riddle, local rancher and insurance barren and husband of Pat, who is an angel. Scott, his family, and many cows live west of downtown Hubbard.
Well, it seems the real estate market is somewhat slow in Hubbard, and a local unnamed realtor, Ram He-Mauel, is not letting this warming crisis go to waste. Seems this entrepreneur has set up an exchange where he will buy Cow Fart Credits (CFCs) from those who own land (and don't own cows) and sell them to Scott Riddle (who owns many, many farting cows). Legislation has been proposed to the Hubbard City Counsel that would require any rancher to have no more than one cow farting per every 20 acres. This legislation would allow the trading of Cow Fart Credits (CFCs) to balance farts across central Texas ranches. This legislation is entitled: CRAP AND TRADE. This writer will follow this pending legislation and hopes to interview most of the involved parties once the air clears. Stay tuned.Meanwhile, Once Happy Harry Reid is preparing to bring a Cap and Trade Bill to his crack governing body in Washington, D.C. This legislation would be patterned after Al Gore and friends plans to save the world from global warming while they also stimulate the capitalist system. Algore is an investor in the Chicago Climate Exchange along with other honorable people like Goldman Sachs. This exchange provides a trading floor for Carbon Credits (the exchange takes a fee around 4% for every trade).
Traders include organizations like The National Farmers Union who promotes tax payer scams like renewable energy sources such as ethanol, bio diesel and wind energy. National Farmers Union’s Carbon Credit Program is a multi-state program that allows farmers and landowners to earn income by storing carbon in their soil through "no-till" crop production and long term grass seeding practices. We know a lot of lazy farmers around Hubbard that would love the "no till" way of making money by just letting the carbon stay in the ground, huh? Farmers Union has earned approval from the Chicago Climate Exchange to aggregate carbon credits. Farmers Union is enrolling producer areas of carbon into blocks of credits that will be traded on the Exchange, much like other agricultural commodities are traded.
The National Farm Union surprisingly were big supporters of President Hussein in 2008. They graded each of the candidates based on their policies. Obama received a perfect 100% rating, based on his support of the 2008 Farm Bill and a renewable fuel standard. On the other hand, the organization gave John McCain a grade of zero percent, in part because he was in favor of reducing subsidies for ethanol and food products (can you imagine that?).
Folks, we are not making this up. The greatest scam ever is unfolding before our very eyes. Al Gore, Valerie Jarrett, Obama, the Green Movement, and the Chicago Machine are all financially invested in this ridiculous scheme. They have BILLIONS of YOUR DOLLARS in their gun sites.
This nation can not survive Socialized Health Care, the auto industry takeover by unions, government bailouts, deficit spending, and takeovers of Wall Street (with their Goldman Sachs accomplices), and now the proposed CRAP AND TRADE.

Trading Cow Fart Credits (CFCs)?
Those of you who have been following this blog for some time know that downtown Hubbard City suffers from Global Warming every July and August. Those of the current Ruling Class who take their coffee at the Hubbard City Drugstore blame the warming on excessive gas expelled by cows who reside on land owned and operated by one Scott Riddle, local rancher and insurance barren and husband of Pat, who is an angel. Scott, his family, and many cows live west of downtown Hubbard.
Well, it seems the real estate market is somewhat slow in Hubbard, and a local unnamed realtor, Ram He-Mauel, is not letting this warming crisis go to waste. Seems this entrepreneur has set up an exchange where he will buy Cow Fart Credits (CFCs) from those who own land (and don't own cows) and sell them to Scott Riddle (who owns many, many farting cows). Legislation has been proposed to the Hubbard City Counsel that would require any rancher to have no more than one cow farting per every 20 acres. This legislation would allow the trading of Cow Fart Credits (CFCs) to balance farts across central Texas ranches. This legislation is entitled: CRAP AND TRADE. This writer will follow this pending legislation and hopes to interview most of the involved parties once the air clears. Stay tuned.Meanwhile, Once Happy Harry Reid is preparing to bring a Cap and Trade Bill to his crack governing body in Washington, D.C. This legislation would be patterned after Al Gore and friends plans to save the world from global warming while they also stimulate the capitalist system. Algore is an investor in the Chicago Climate Exchange along with other honorable people like Goldman Sachs. This exchange provides a trading floor for Carbon Credits (the exchange takes a fee around 4% for every trade).
Traders include organizations like The National Farmers Union who promotes tax payer scams like renewable energy sources such as ethanol, bio diesel and wind energy. National Farmers Union’s Carbon Credit Program is a multi-state program that allows farmers and landowners to earn income by storing carbon in their soil through "no-till" crop production and long term grass seeding practices. We know a lot of lazy farmers around Hubbard that would love the "no till" way of making money by just letting the carbon stay in the ground, huh? Farmers Union has earned approval from the Chicago Climate Exchange to aggregate carbon credits. Farmers Union is enrolling producer areas of carbon into blocks of credits that will be traded on the Exchange, much like other agricultural commodities are traded.
The National Farm Union surprisingly were big supporters of President Hussein in 2008. They graded each of the candidates based on their policies. Obama received a perfect 100% rating, based on his support of the 2008 Farm Bill and a renewable fuel standard. On the other hand, the organization gave John McCain a grade of zero percent, in part because he was in favor of reducing subsidies for ethanol and food products (can you imagine that?).
Folks, we are not making this up. The greatest scam ever is unfolding before our very eyes. Al Gore, Valerie Jarrett, Obama, the Green Movement, and the Chicago Machine are all financially invested in this ridiculous scheme. They have BILLIONS of YOUR DOLLARS in their gun sites.
This nation can not survive Socialized Health Care, the auto industry takeover by unions, government bailouts, deficit spending, and takeovers of Wall Street (with their Goldman Sachs accomplices), and now the proposed CRAP AND TRADE.
That's what I think, but then I could write a book about what I don't know,

BM and Old Duke At Their Best
OK, I will admit that I am a sucker for any song that includes a man's best friend, particularly with a name like Old Duke. Particularly if Old Duke looks a lot like my old dog named Willie. Include a young cowboy and a pick up truck and I go for my wallet. Make it sorrowful with the pain of a good break up with a pretty girl, and I will recommend it to my friends. Make the presentation from Old Duke's perspective, and I am beside myself going all in with my whole stack of chips.
And then, and then, have none other than Billy Roy Mitchum (really spelled Mitcham, I misspell it so he can't sue me for using his name) sing the song from Old Buck's perspective, and I am way over the top with shear delight. As you know BM is the un-official Chairman of the Hubbard City Cafe and semi-local Country and Western star of some renown. Insiders even know that BM bought my old motor scooter as a young boy when I moved up to my first car at the age of 14.
Just wait. You are going to love this new video. If you don't, I can't help you. I challenge anyone to watch this just one time. This video was filmed along Texas highway 31 in and around Hubbard City. Watch closely and you will see Jim Ray Hammer's service station where I bought my first set of new tires for my solid red 1953 Mercury. Jim Ray and son still run it and take care of Mom and Aunt Martha "real good".
