Now that we have fixed the debt ceiling thing and avoided worldwide financial catastrophe we can focus on major local issues. Things like watching our IRAs collapse (11% so far) with the George Bush caused stock market plunge this week (hopefully Obama can save us and keep the DOW from losing more than 2,000). It makes you wonder what would have happened if Obama and Boehner hadn’t done such a great job fixing the debt ceiling and our debt problems. In Hubbard we have the same really big issue we have it seems every July and August. The problem does have a new name this year as it has become CLIMATE CHANGE INSTEAD OF GLOBAL WARMING. Seems to happen almost every year in downtown Hubbard City.
The climate seems to change mostly around the Hubbard City Drug Store where global warming used to happen as well. This is also where Hubbard’s Liberals/Progressives/”What Evers” have their coffee. Whereas the Café folks stick mostly to just coffee, unless there is a major birthday or something, the Libs will bring in fancy things like sweet rolls, donuts, and coffee cake on just plain ole regular days. They even bring in homemade biscuits and gravy on big special occasions like Obama’s birthday or May Day or celebration of the Cuban Revolution.
Well it seems there is a rumor that has been revealed at the Café that the Libs are boiling over again this year feeling really strong that the climate change will reach what they call single digits. That would be something like all ones, you know 111 degrees. And again this year they are blaming this change on Scott Riddle’s cow farts. To jog your memory Scott is the nephew of hall of fame baseball player and former resident of Hubbard, one Tris Speaker. Scott moved to the city, that would be Waco, and became an Insurance tycoon. After coming back to Hubbard he bought bottom land about three miles north of Hubbard and filled it up with big old cows. It is alleged by the Libs, who are supported by former agriculture teacher J. B. Nunnelly, that as drought sets in and the grass gets real dry the cows release exceptional and excessive amounts of gas carbons into the air. There are those who claim that Scott, an avowed Conservative, aims the cows every July/August right at the downtown Hubbard Drug Store.
The rumor has it that the Libs have taken some of their Stimulus money and have been preparing a protest sign. This is really big because Hubbard City has never had a protest sign before of any kind, not even when the City Council banned high school same sex marriages. Now normally the Café would send my Aunt Martha, who writes a column for the Hubbard City News called the "Snoop", into the Drug Store to find out what is happening. This isn’t possible because Aunt Martha has been hospitalized with a low sodium condition. She went to the hospital after I strongly insisted that she do so. Seems Hubbard folks listen to me a lot about medical conditions and take my advice knowing that I play golf with several doctors here in Austin on a semi-regular basis.
To defend himself against possible protest signs it appears Scott has gone down to his old friend and former football team mate, Doyle Lee Holman who now runs the Hubbard Loan Company located on main street just out of the climate change zone, who has sold Scott a semi-official looking certificate. The certificate says Scott has bought Carbon Credits to offset excessive cow farting (Algore is involved in this somehow as well).
Looks like this could wind up on the desk of local Justice of the Peace, Big Brad Henley who is also a former football team mate of Scott’s. Also since Aunt Martha’s daughter is the JP’s assistant it would appear that Scott is going to come out of this OK again this year to the serious frustration of the folks at the Drug Store.
So this appears to be something you really don’t have to think about too much,
Jim

Everything Is OK Now
Date: August 1, 2011
To: The Hubbard City Cafe
From: Mitch McConnell and John Boehner (Your leaders in Washington)
1. We made an agreement with Obama, Biden, Reid, and Pelosi and avoided financial catastrophe by raising the debt ceiling beyond the 2012 Election. Don't worry. Everything is OK now.
2. OK, we agreed to gut the military with large spending cuts in the first phase of the agreement and with even larger cuts with the triggers in the second phase, but don't worry. We never follow through on our promises to cut spending anyway.
3. OK, we agreed to let the Democrats put tax increases back on the table in phase two of the agreement, but don't worry. We never raise taxes on the American people. We and President Obama have pledged we will not raise taxes except for President Obama and only then on Millionaires and mostly Billionaires. Anyway, it is hard to argue against a "balanced plan".
4. OK, we agreed to give Obama another $2.4 Trillion to spend between now and his 2012 election, but don't worry. He has learned his lesson and will spend it wisely this time.
5. OK, the spending cuts of $2.5 Trillion sound large and that they might affect you, but don't worry. Most of them are back loaded over the 10 year period, and of course, will never happen.
6. OK, we know the rating agencies wanted a cut of at least $4 Trillion to keep the US Credit Rating at AAA, but don't worry. Obama says he will buy them off, and he is really good at that stuff. He may even bring Bill Clinton in to help him with that.
7. OK, we know Obama said he actually wanted to make cuts to Medicare (notice he doesn't mention Medicaid), but don't worry. His Obamacare has already cut $500 Billion, and the new cuts would only be aimed at your Doctors, Nurses, Hospitals, and Insurance Companies. None of this will impact you the President assures us. It also helps him "Triangulate" (appear to be Moderate) for his Re-election so he will be agreeing with us on a lot of things between now and November of 2012. He has learned his lesson.
8. OK, we won on the Balanced Budget Amendment. It will come up for a vote. If you like it, great. If not, don't worry. It requires a 2/3 majority in Congress and the Democrats have enough Libs in safe districts and states to defeat the bill in Congress. The Dems in swing voting districts will vote for it.
9. OK, we know we will lose a lot of Tea Party guys with this bill, but don't worry. We will more than make up for these lost votes by gaining Democratic votes. You know bipartisan stuff rocks!!
Well, that's it. We worked through the week end for you guys. Our assistants will be contacting you with our banking information where you can send your donations for our re-elections (Obama isn't the only one running you know. You need us!)
With best wishes from your public servants,
Mitch and John

Boehner Will Probably Crater at the Wire
Folks keep calling wanting to know Billy Roy's take on the Saturday and Sunday events regarding the debt ceiling so I gave him a call:
"Here's my take, Jim. Most Americans and certainly the Tea Party supporters wanted to use the Debt Ceiling issue as a vehicle to create a solution to our deficit and debt issues. A solution would consist of cutting spending by greater than $6 Trillion over the next 10 years, plus caps on spending, and the initiation of a Balanced Budget Amendment to the US Constitution. The Amendment process would take many months and require approval by the States as well. This solution is clearly not going to happen."
"Next, most Americans and the Tea Party supporters wanted at least a 'down payment' of expense cuts tied to raising the debt ceiling. This would be REAL expense cuts in excess of $4 Trillion. The is also a requirement of Wall Street for the US to maintain it's AAA debt rating. This down payment is not going to happen."
"Next, most Americans and the Tea Party would like to see the debt ceiling raised enough to buy more time to achieve a solution or down payment. This would be the Boehner plan consisting of about a $1 Trillion debt ceiling raise with about the same in expense cuts. Congress would then have to come back in about six months using the debt ceiling to attempt to force a solution or a down payment on our debt/deficit. The President says he will veto this because he wants to get this behind him and not have to face up to the deficit until after the 2012 election. The Dems will be forced to support Obama so the Boehner plan can not pass."
"So we are left with a plan being put together as we speak which looks like the President would get his only wish which is no limits on his spending through the 2012 election by raising the debt ceiling by more than $2.4 Trillion. They are attaching spending cuts over 10 years that would total about $1 Trillion. Then they will add DC gobbledygook language to a bi-partisan committee that would supposedly identify other expense cuts, and failing to do so, triggers would force some kind of action which I would not bet on at all. My guess is the Senate will pass this bill. Boehner will pull enough Republican votes to add to most of the Democratic votes to pass this 'bipartisan compromise' in the House. Most, if not all, Conservative Republicans will vote against this bill. In other words, Boehner after running a strong race looks like he will crater at the wire."
"So what do we wind up with after all of this bullshit? We let Obama led Washington borrow another $2.4-$3.0 Trillion over the next year and a half to increase our debt to around $17-17.5 Trillion. For that we get a promise from DC of expense cuts of $1 Trillion spread over 10 years. This would possibly reduce our yearly deficits which are running about $1.5 Trillion per year by an average of $100 Billion a year reducing the annual deficit to $1.4 Trillion. This is peanuts, and when you factor in the fact that the expense cuts will probably never happen, we accomplished NOTHING. No solution, no down payment, and they don't have to do anything through the 2012 election. Meanwhile, Obama is free to spend all of his time buying votes and campaigning for the next 16 months."
"Who are the winners and losers? The losers are the American people and particularly our children and grandchildren. The losers include Obama who showed himself to those few remaining supporters who are not plantation slaves of the Democratic Party that he is an incompetent blatantly political light weight. John Boehner will come out of this process if it comes down as described above as losing the support of Conservative Republicans which would include of course the Tea Party. After fighting effectively for months to get in a position of leverage, Boehner will compromise in the end by allowing a debt ceiling that takes DC (and Obama) off the hook until after 2012 and getting token expense cuts spread over 10 long years. Sadly, Boehner will wind up voting with the Democrats instead of his own party. Lastly, America will lose its reputation in the world financial markets as its rating will be lowered. Both Parties will blame each other for the lowered rating."
"Winners? Those who want to buy votes from the 51% of Americans who don't pay income taxes and the 70% that take more money than they pay into Washington. They gained 16 more months to plunder our treasury. Also winning are the news agencies who drew huge audiences to follow this miserable circus."
With the few hours left we can hope and pray that BM's call is wrong and that Boehner will not agree to anything that raises the ceiling beyond 2012 without at least $4 Trillion of expense cuts. This probably will not happen. We will not quit. We will have to wait until 2012. At that time we should throw out the leaders of the House and Senate with Obama.
Think about it. Enough!!!
Jim
P. S.
Did anyone notice that Republican Senators never really got involved except to make an evil compromise at the end. Put them on your November, 2012 list.

Boehner and the Tea Party: Both Are Right
The Tea Party is exactly right.
House Speaker John Boehner is exactly right.
When you are right, NEVER, NEVER, compromise.
The Tea Party is right that no proposal currently being considered to raise the debt ceiling SOLVES, or even makes a big down payment, on the deficit. They should continue to push for plans like their Cut, Cap, and Balance everywhere possible. They should also support the Boehner plan to raise the debt ceiling.
Boehner is right in that he does not have the Senate nor President's co-operation to SOLVE, or even make a big down payment, on the deficit. He also is right to pass a short term (6 mos. or so) extension of the debt ceiling that accompanies a small package of expense cuts. This scares the Socialists in the Senate and White House to death. The ball is now in their court. To not pass the House bill will make the Socialists responsible for having to ration our bill payments and run the likely risk of facing a downgrade of our nation's credit rating because we are not passing an expense reduction plan greater than $4 Trillion. It also does not give Obama the only thing he really cares about which is not having to face this debt issue again before the 2012 election.
To pass the House bill is not a compromise for Boehner nor the Tea Party. Both are voting to buy another 6 months to work the SOLUTION or at least a big down payment on the deficit. They can run on this progress in 2012 to gain a majority in the Senate and to put an ADULT in the White House.
The only way the Republicans can commit an evil compromise is if they agree to a small expense cut and an EXTENSION OF THE DEBT CEILING BEYOND 2012. If they do this we pack up and either : (A) Move to New Zealand (B) Move to Australia (C) Secede from the Union (Texas only).
Think about it,
Jim
P. S. The following is a philosophical note I recently sent a friend.
In my later years I hate compromise. On most issues there is a right and a wrong. Right is right. Wrong is wrong. Compromise is EVIL.
Examples: The debt/deficit problem is a spending problem. Right is to cut spending to get our budgets back in balance. Wrong is to keep borrowing and spending. Compromise is to cut a little and keep spending while deceiving voters. I would rather see politicians Wrong than EVIL.
The debt/deficit problem is also a revenue problem. Right is creating an income and business friendly environment to grow the economy and the tax base. Wrong is to weaken the economy with high taxes and regulation and try to offset it with tax increases and regulations which weaken it more. EVIL is compromising with some tax increases and regulations and token spending cuts. The deficit grows the economy weakens and it just takes a little while longer to bankruptcy.
Example 2: If the Titanic is sinking and one group says abandon ship (Right) and the other says stay on board (Wrong) clearly one is right and the other wrong. The Compromisers say let’s let half abandon and half stay on board. This is EVIL.
Example 3: Gays in military. Right is to not allow gays in the military. Wrong is to openly allow them. Don’t ask don’t tell is EVIL knowing that the next gay friendly President will eliminate DADT. The end result of compromise is doing wrong without anyone taking responsibility.
Bi-partisanship today only serves the politicians and continues the country's slide downhill.

Jello From Outer Space
As an Illinois Senator Barack Hussein Obama voted present on most issues.
As a US Senator, BHO had the most Liberal voting record in the Senate and gave speechs railing against Bush for raising the debt ceiling and in support of the War Powers Act (requiring a President to get Congressional approval to commit troops war like in Libya). Both of which he jumped the fence on once elected.
As President of the United States, BHO sat on the sidelines as the Democratic Congress created and passed a monstrosity of a Health Care Bill. The same with regulating the Finance Industry. The same with "shovel ready" projects for the almost $1 Trillion "stimulus" plan and the auto takeover and Wall Street bailout.
Then last November when the Republicans, who won a majority in the House, started slowing down the spending and regulatory insanity of a Democratic Congress there was a cry from many "compromisers" for the President to get involved, show leadership, and break the log jams.
This weekend we saw Barack Hussein Obama at work. House Majority Leader, John Boehner, went head to head with the President to avoid Obama's declared crisis date of August 2 to raise the debt ceiling. Yes, this weekend at the end of two months of Boehner working with Obama events culminated in John throwing up his hands and saying negotiating with Obama was "like negotiating with jello". He said, "he felt he was dealing with someone from another planet."
Well for those who didn't already know, the cat is out of the bag now. Our President is an INCOMPETENT NARCISSISTIC IDIOT. It was obvious in his ridiculous press conference on Friday that Obama doesn't have a clue what the details of any of the proposed settlements mean. Anytime a reporter gets close to asking about numbers or time frames, which isn't often since Obama cherry picks those who can ask questions, Obama punts and lies that, "my staff will provide you all the details", which never happens.
It is crystal clear: OBAMA DOES NOT KNOW NOR CARE WHAT THE DEAL LOOKS LIKE AT ALL AS LONG AS THE DEBT CEILING IS RAISED BY $2.4 TRILLION WHICH HIS LACKEYS TELL HIM HE NEEDS TO GET PAST THE 2012 ELECTION. PERIOD, PERIOD, PERIOD.
Again, this President is corrupt, lazy, deceitful, narcissistic, and totally incompetent. And with what happened this week end (THE JELLO AND OUTER SPACE THING) all the world now knows. How would you like to be the leader of Israel, Afghanistan, Iraq, Egypt, Libya, Iran, North Korea, China, Russia, or the United Kingdom and know that the most important person to you in the world (The Leader of the Free World) is a piece of JELLO FROM OUTER SPACE?
Think about it because the next 18 months just got a lot longer (and shakier),
Jim
P.S. The debt ceiling debate boils down to the size and the extension of the ceiling. Anything around $1 Trillion or less and the Country wins. Anything over $2.4 Trillion and the JELLO FROM OUTER SPACE wins. The short term extension enbles the House to continue to put pressure on the Dems for spending cuts. Secondly, even without default which will not happen, if we don't seriously reduce our debt by more than $4 Trillion over the next 10 years the three rating agencies will more than likely reduce our credit rating because of our perceived inability to pay our debt. If so, interests rates go up and the economy suffers even more. Hold on to your gold teeth!

What A Gang of Crap!!
Republican House members say, "Democrats are our adversaries, senators are our enemy." I say, " On most any issue there are three choices: Right, Wrong, and Evil/Compromise." Why?
The following article attempts to report the "details" of the Gang of Six Proposal which Obama strongly supports because he wants to use it to raise the debt ceiling enough to get him past his 2012 election date.
The Headlines: Gang of Six plan punts on key details
By Erik Wasson - 07/19/11 01:09 PM ET
My comments are added.
The Gang of Six plan unveiled to senators on Tuesday punts on key details, including exactly how it would reform Social Security and Medicare, according to a detailed outline obtained by The Hill.
The plan adopts a two-track approach: a $500 billion down payment (code for do nothing) and a later reform bill generating an additional $3.2 trillion in deficit reduction (over 10 years of course). That later bill is largely left up to committees of jurisdiction, and they are only required to meet specific savings targets (pure DC gooblygook).
On healthcare entitlements, the plan would seek to hold the growth of spending to GDP plus 1 percent per beneficiary, but it largely leaves it up to committees to decide how to achieve the savings. (leaves it to a committee? good luck!).
The plan would be held at the Senate desk until a Social Security fix is found, and if that fix does not get the 60 votes required, the rest of the deficit plan is voided (but the debt limit has already been raised and tax deductions already canceled). The reform must ensure 75 years of solvency for Social Security, according to the Gang of Six, but how to achieve that is left up to the Finance Committee. If Finance cannot agree, a group of 10 senators — five from each party — can bring a reform bill to the floor (Can or will? Boy, this is tough stuff, huh?).
A $500 billion immediate down payment would be achieved through discretionary caps imposed through 2015, by instituting a new measure of inflation known as the chained Consumer Price Index (CPI), freezing congressional pay and selling federal property (Immediate by 2015? (Even if this ever happened, the deficit would still increase by an additional $7 Trillion (50%) by 2015) .
The down payment would also repeal The Class Act, a long-term-care insurance plan (??????).
Chained CPI would cause Social Security benefits and tax deductions to be lowered, the use of which has been loudly opposed by seniors' lobbying groups. To address senior concerns, the plan exempts Supplemental Security Income from the shift for five years and provides a minimum benefit equal to 125 percent of the poverty line for five years.
Part One of the plan would also require the Government Accountability Office and Labor Department to find a new way to administer unemployment insurance (Doesn't get more specific than this. These guys are kicking ass!).
For Part Two (finally), the plan would require committees of jurisdiction to report bills within six months. The Finance Committee would be charged with legislating a permanent “doc fix” and fully offsetting the cost of healthcare savings. It would also be required to find an additional $202 billion in healthcare saving (What the hell is this?).
Among other committees, Armed Services would be required to find $80 billion in cuts from the Pentagon budget, while Agriculture would be required to find $11 billion in savings while protecting food stamps. The plan also requires medical malpractice reform, a nod to the GOP (I have big money that says a nod is all they will get).
The Budget Committee would be left to decide discretionary caps after 2015 and before 2021 (committees, committees, committees).
Finance would be required to reduce tax rates to three tax brackets of rates: of 8-12 percent, 14-22 percent and 23-29 percent. The current top marginal rate is 35 percent (What deductions are eliminated to get these? They are claiming $1 Trillion of new revenue. That is DC speak for new taxes.).
The corporate tax rate would be between 23 percent and 29 percent, and tax reform would cease taxation of overseas profits. (What do corporations give up to get this?)
Sens. Kent Conrad (D-N.D.), Mark Warner (D-Va.), Dick Durbin (D-Ill.), Mike Crapo (R-Idaho), Saxby Chambliss (R-Ga.) and Tom Coburn (R-Okla.) back the Gang plan and are hoping to get 60 senators to support it within the next few days. The framework could be attached to the debt-ceiling compromise.
How many times have you heard the DC term, "It is tied up in committee?" How many of the required actions in this framework require committee decisions and action? Committees are burial grounds for legislation. This is the same old kick the can of crap down the road on spending cuts while raising taxes immediately.
This is typical Washington. When no one has the nerve to pass a detailed plan, just COMPROMISE on a "framework" and announce it as if you did something. I say never agree to anything Dick Durbin and Barack Obama embrace. Tom Coburn obviously has been in Washington way too long or the Dems have embarrassing pictures. Mike Crapo is also a sponsor of Cut, Cap, and Balance. He supports this crap on the very day C, C, & B is voted on in the House. With friends like Crapo you don't need enemies. Who knows about Chambliss and who knows what Chambliss knows, but he looks like a good southern gentleman? Warner and Conrad are Moderate Socialists who compromise with moderate Conservatives to soothe their consciences. Moderates are more dangerous than Liberals, and their compromises are more evil than just being plain wrong.
Any dummy knows that the RIGHT thing to do is to reduce the size of government and reduce federal spending. The WRONG thing to do is to keep spending and increasing the 50% of Americans who don’t pay taxes reliance on government. The EVIL thing to do is to COMPROMISE. As our country drifts to Socialism all the Commies need to do is just COMPROMISE AND COMPROMISE until the nation is on its knees. Then take over the mess that’s LEFT. This Gang of Crap is just another step in that direction.

Cut and Cap Obama's Tongue to Balance Truth
Butch has his biggest frown on, "I hear the arguments about this debt ceiling where some say up and others down. Some say its black and the others say white. If we don't raise the debt ceiling we will default on our interest payments to our borrowers some say. Others say no way. If we can't get a straight answer from DC on that question how do we sort through the proposals that pop up on a daily basis? The only truth I know is that truth has no honor in DC, and to be truthful, it is losing ground in every aspect of our society. One of the rare times we have caught our current White House resident telling the truth was when he said, 'My friends, we live in the greatest nation in the history of the world.. I hope you'll join with me, as we change it.'-- Barack Obama, himself. One of Obama's biggest changes is to the old saying 'a man's word is his bond'?"
"A century ago, if someone gave their pledge, assurance, or handshake, that word or agreement was valid even in court. A man’s word was his honor! Over the years, we have justified twisting a word and its meaning into a complex pretzel, forgetting about honor and what a promise meant. We've had Presidents commit perjury and explained it away because 'everybody lies about sex'. When a politician is caught red handed, we say 'all politicians lie. He was campaigning for re-election. What do you expect?' Without honor, and truthfullness, we are despicable people, no longer worthy of trust."
Being one of Billy Roy's favorite topics he entered the fray, "Obama said when it came to raising taxes, 'I’m Just Giving the People What They Want! He lied like a dog in claiming 80 percent of the public supports Democrats’ demand for tax increases. He said, 'The American people are sold, the problem is members of Congress are dug in ideologically'. He was twisting a Gallop poll as only a sleazy lawyer can. The poll truthfully says 55% of the American People are AGAINST raising the debt limit under ANY policy mix. You can stop right here in questioning where the people are compared to Obama who wanted to raise the ceiling with no in a clean bill with not restriction initially. 20% in the poll favor a deficit reduction plan that is PURE spending cuts and 30% favor MOSTLY spending cuts -- so, that 's 50% of the people. And then you have the Obama supporters where 32% of the American people want a pure "mix" -- equal cuts and tax increases; 7% favor MOSTLY tax increases; 4% favor ALL TAXES. So, Obama has 43% of the people with him. 50% against him. And he thinks he's leading an 80% majority. No matter how much an old mangy dog lies around even on a hot August day, this guy lies more."
"We all know by now if you want an accurate poll go to Rasmussen. His headlines say '55% Oppose Tax Hike In Debt Ceiling Deal'. Oops, where are Obama's 80% in this poll. Just 34% think a tax hike should be included in any legislation to raise the debt ceiling. There is a huge partisan divide on the question. Fifty-eight percent (58%) of Democrats (not even 80% of Dems?) want a tax hike in the deal while 82% of Republicans do not (there is a true 80% number). Among those not affiliated with either major political party, 35% favor a tax hike and 51% are opposed according to Rasmussen."
"At the same time, however, 52% believe it would be even more dangerous to raise the debt ceiling without making significant cuts in government spending than to not raise it at all. Thirty-seven percent (37%) take the opposite view and believe a government default would be more dangerous. Bottom line, if Obama's word is his bond, his bonds are rated way worse than JUNK. And he is the President of the leader of the free world."
"With the nation staring down $14 trillion in debt, a Senate that has failed to pass a budget in 811 days, a President whose budget was voted down in the Senate by a vote of 97-0, and a government that can't decide how to raise the debt ceiling, you might think that a plan to get spending under control and solve the debt ceiling impasse would be a welcome breath of fresh air in Washington. Well, it might be, unless you're President Barack Obama or liberals on Capitol Hill."
"Today, the U.S. House is set to vote on a Republican-sponsored plan known as 'Cut, Cap, and Balance' that 'would cut spending by $5.8 trillion over 10 years, cap future spending and require Congress to approve a constitutional amendment to balance the federal budget before raising the debt ceiling by $2.4 trillion'. Our President is telling the people he wants a 'big deal'. This is a big deal So what does he send his court jester, Jay Carney press secretary, out to do? He calls it, 'duck, dodge and dismantle’, and then the lies get bigger. The White House blog warns that the spending cuts it requires would burden 'seniors and the most vulnerable' and would be 'harmful to the economic recovery in the short-term' (a recovery where Obama has spent trillions which have led to 9.2 percent unemployment)."
"In Obama's press conference his liberal scare tactics and lies grew in which he struggled to even utter the plan's name, warned that the measures in the legislation are drastic and that a balanced budget amendment is unnecessary. He said 'we just need to do our jobs'."
Our jobs are to return to the days of old when a man's word was his bond. The lies and attacks will only increase as the Puppet President gets more desperate.
